Vernon Farm & Market is a specialty crop farm that grows fruits, vegetables & flowers. We started in 2018 with the purchase of some farm equipment, pumpkin seeds and a lot of determination. Since then we have built greenhouses, created a farm store and have an annual CSA program that provides produce grown on the farm to our local CSA members. We have chickens and ducks that provide eggs for our farm store & CSA program as well.
The site where we currently grow and have the farm store was purchased by Ryan’s Grandfather Carlo Masi in 1972. It was run as a dairy farm until 1985 but hadn’t been farmed since. 30 years later Ryan had the opportunity to purchase the farm and keep it in the family. Ryan and Howard both saw the potential the farm had and decided to try and turn it into a fruit and vegetable farm. Most of the property was overgrown but we were able to find some old field space to grow crops. Our first season we learned a lot about growing and have since cleared more space and have been growing a larger variety of fruits & vegetables.
Ryan grew up in Vernon and has worked for his family’s wholesale produce business for quite some time. He’s familiar with many fruits & vegetables and the logistics behind the wholesale produce industry.
Howard grew up in Vernon Center and graduated from SUNY Morrisville with a bachelors of technology in Horticultural Business Management. Currently he works for the Horticulture Department at SUNY Morrisville, he manages the colleges organic farm as well as other areas of the program.
Ryan & Howard have known each-other most their lives, both graduating from VVS high-school in 2012. They’ve always had an interest in growing and with the opportunity of the farm they have expanded upon that interest.
Currently this is our 5th year of farming and we’re excited for the coming season. We just built a 3,000 square ft. high tunnel greenhouse last summer and we’re looking forward to begin utilizing it this spring. We’re introducing our volunteer program this year for the first time in an effort to help teach others and strengthen our community.
Our mission is to grow high quality produce for our local community by providing a farm to table experience right here in Vernon New York.
